How amazing that through the grace of God, our prayers are answered. Transforming lives is not just about a physical transformation, such as guests free from addiction, houses found, and funding allocated. It is about a spiritual transformation. That’s the real difference, for guests to have a thirst for Jesus.

That’s why our rhythm of life at Derby City Mission is rooted in prayer.  We pray daily as a staff team and host a weekly prayer meeting for church leaders in the city to get together and pray because God listens and has the power to move through our city.

How can I pray?

Finding Jesus Amongst the Chaos

Pete and Steve, two of our night staff, felt inspired to give our guests the opportunity to hear about the good news of Jesus by running an Alpha course at Derby Churches Nightshelter recently. Up to 10 people joined the weekly Alpha session, with one guest returning each week although he had found accommodation and didn’t need to stay the night.

Doing Alpha changed the whole atmosphere in the shelter for that evening. It became an atmosphere of peace, belonging and safety and prayer, we could hear people in the smoking area having discussions amongst themselves about how good it was. Keep praying that, amongst the chaos of our guests’ lives, they come to know the love of Jesus and the power of a relationship with him.
