“Thank you so much for helping my son tonight. Anything could have happened to him if you hadn't helped him. He is home safe now, thank you”

October 2022

My mum fell ill and vomited/ passed out in the street.

Your street pastors helped my dad look after my mum until I arrived with my friend and then helped us get her into a taxi to take her to a&e.

I am so grateful for their help and support while looking after my mum, and appreciate their kindness and compassion. I was unaware of the role of the street pastors until that night but I am so thankful that there are people out there willing to help. I really appreciate the help and wish there were more people around like them, they are truly amazing!!
Thank you so much.

I’m just messaging to say a huge thank you for helping my 19yr old granddaughter this morning outside MooMoos. She felt unwell and sat on the pavement- so many people would have walked past but one of your volunteers used her phone to call her dad and stayed with her.
She is in hospital being treated for a blood clot in her lung.
My granddaughter and her whole family say THANK YOU so very much for your care.

(Letter)

I write in relation to your annual report which was kindly forwarded to our office earlier in July, which I have now had an opportunity to read.

On behalf of the Constabulary, I would like to thank you for the work that you do in supporting our work around the nighttime economy and very particularly around those vulnerable members of society.

With very best wishes.
Yours sincerely,

“I just wanted to say thank you so much for helping our daughter last night. We didn't get a chance to say thank you last night. We don't know exactly what happened and she has lots of blank spots. Thankfully she is feeling somewhat better today and hopefully even better tomorrow. You were all very lovely and kind to her and us. I'm really sorry I don't remember everyone's name (it was a bit stressful) there were 2 ladies one called Lynne and a gentleman. Big thank you to you all. You do an amazing job. Please could you tell me how we make a donation? Many thanks"

"Thank you for your message. We are extremely grateful for the work you do and for your help with our son. He has now recovered, albeit rather shaken and so are we. Not quite sure what happened to him. He said he suddenly felt really ill, went outside for some air with his friends and then remembers nothing else!!

So again, thank you for being on the streets."

"Hello, just wanted to say a big thank you. I don't remember the names properly. I believe one was a man called John. Anyway, Friday night my partner had got herself into quite a state and was taken out of the club by the bouncers, …… one of your teams came to help, and were honestly so helpful in helping both myself and my partner get home safe. I genuinely don't know what I would have done without their assistance. So once again wanted to say a very big thank you to them, as I don't think I got to say it to them in person."

"Thank you Street Pastors for everything you do, I can't put into words what it means to have you on the streets. It makes such a difference having you lot around....there's something...I can’t explain it, ... you can sense it .. in the atmosphere.  I want to explain but it's hard to find the right words.... thank you for being there for everyone.  You've been there for me, twice. I was in a bad way but I don't get like that anymore. I'm sober, I've learnt my lesson.  I love you... people love you guys, do you know that?  The police, they're here but they can't do everything. You need to know and I don't think you do, I don't think you realise just how much it means to know that you are around. You should be paid, you should be rewarded for everything you do.  I love you, we love you and I'm so thankful to you."

"To whoever looked after me and my two drunk friends last night.  Thank you so very much for sitting with us and helping xxx sober up.  We all made it home and used a ladder to get in the window.

Honestly, without you guys, I really don’t know what I would have done. You are absolute stars!!!

I hope that I will never cross paths with you again but if I do I will know I am in safe hands. Thank you so much."

"Your Street Pastors saved my life 2 years ago, myself and my partner fell over outside the Jorrocks pub, I nicked an artery on my forehead and blood was pumping out. 2 street pastors wrapped my head tightly and told me to get a taxi straight away to hospital. I waited from 10 o clock to 8.30 in the morning and eventually saw a nurse who pulled the bandaging off quickly and started the bleeding again. A surgeon was bought in who sewed the artery together and asked me who had put the bandage on, I would have bled out by the time I had got to hospital without the aid of the Street Pastors. So a very big thank you xxxxxxxxx"

“Thank you so much for looking after my son on Saturday night. he had become detached from his friends and was very drunk. A very nice man called Jon stayed with him until his brother picked him up. He got home safely and is now in bed with water and a bucket. Thank you for the hard work you do, I am a nurse and have a good level of understanding of people who become vulnerable after a night out. Where can I make a donation to the mission? I am so so grateful.

Hi there, I found myself in a state last night and under no circumstances would I have been able to get home safely without the help of your street pastors. I have never been in such a way before and it was honestly scary. I was worried Id been spiked! I couldn't tell you who was with me but an extremely friendly and non-judgmental group of pastors helped me call family for help, stuck with me despite being sick and difficult to control, and honestly I am so grateful. Thank you so much for the work you all do, I truly believe that without your help I would have been taken advantage of or worse. Thank you!!

I'd like to say a huge thank you for the help that your kind team gave me on Saturday night in Derby city centre. I embarrassingly found myself in a very bad way after having too much to drink and the team eventually helped me to a taxi at around 4am. If it hadn't been for their support I honestly don't know how I would have got home.

To receive this level of help, kindness and compassion from strangers is a truly wonderful thing and I can't thank you all enough for what you do. You have given me a lot to think about.

I am about to donate as a small token of my gratitude.

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas.

Kindest regards, Dan

On Saturday night I got myself in a bit of a state, and if it wasn’t for the street pastors I don’t know what would have happened to me.

Thank you so much for helping me, I am so grateful. It worries me to think what could have happened if you hadn’t helped and looked after me.

"Hi, just wanted to message to see if I could find the name of the boy and girl that helped my mum last night in derby town near Jorrocks. My mum and dad fell over last night and she cut her head. They bandaged her head tightly to stop the bleeding and she went to A&E. She had nicked an artery and would of bled out if they hadn’t of done that for her so would love to say thank you to them."

"Just wanted to send you a message of Thanks! Your team found my husband on the street (early August) near The Distillery. He’d had too much to drink & had separated from friends & was found on the floor. I dread to think what could’ve happened if you hadn’t have found him. I’m so grateful & thankful for the work you do & that he came home in one piece to his little girls."
Thank you Again x

"Hello, I would like to send a message of thanks to your team last night. My 18 year old daughter was unconscious in St James Street last night at 03:00hrs. They called us and we were straight there. The work you do is amazing and you save lives. They thought she'd been drugged in a club but she hadn't. Please pass on my forever thanks and let them know that she was home within an hour of arriving at hospital. May God bless you for doing what you do."

"On Saturday myself and my wife came across a team of your Street Pastors in Derby at the bottom of Friar Gate.

My wife had removed her shoes as they were causing her blisters, not advised at that time in the city centre! We were stopped by your Street Pastors, who reached into their bag and gave my wife a pair of flip flops.

I would like to express my thanks for such unselfish kindness and looking after the well-being of my wife's feet. It can't be an easy job and in most cases thankless. I'd like to donate something to your cause if possible? It's greatly appreciated, especially with a sober mind on reflection of the interaction."

"I wanted to get in touch to support the donation I have just made by saying a massive thank you to Mike and the Pastors for keeping me safe on a night out in Derby back in late September. It was a first for me being in the state I was (and it will be the last). Their presence on the streets, their help and support literally saved me. I wanted to donate to give a little something back and express my sincere thanks once again.

I'd also like to offer my help for a weekend or an event or if there is anything I can do, or be involved in. I'd appreciate the opportunity to do so."

Last night a few members of your team helped me out when I found myself in a bad way. They were so helpful, helped me contact my friends who were able to take me home and made sure I was safe. I just want to say a huge thank you, you guys are amazing and I’m so grateful for all your help. My friend also says thank you for looking after me while she was on her way.

Keep doing what you’re doing, because you do it so well."

"I just can’t thank you all enough for what you did for my son last Saturday.  I am hoping he has learnt his lesson!  The street pastors were absolutely wonderful and took care of him until we arrived to pick him up.  My son is only young and has only just started going in to town so I was shocked to learn he had collapsed through drink.

The team last Saturday were all so lovely, helpful and caring.  I didn't even know there were people who gave up their time to help others like this."

This morning he has a sore head & is very embarrassed but he’s safe & that’s all that matters. Thank you again so much."

"I just want to thank you for the amazing work the Street Pastors of Derby do. I went out in town last night and had a couple more drinks than I should have! Nothing too bad but my feet were in absolute agony - I think I should've worn some different shoes!

I was ready to go home at about 12am and three of your Street Pastors were so kind and helpful and gave me a pair of flip flops to help my feet. I don't think they know how much their work is appreciated. You really all are angels and I hope you realise how much you help people. Thankyou so much, hope you all have a lovely Christmas!" X

Call from the father of a girl who the team on Friday night helped, very grateful for our help and the way in which we supported her. He explained that she had just broken up with boyfriend and gone out with girl friends but became separated. Both he and his wife had had a glass of wine so daren’t drive and were thankful that you were able to put her in a taxi and get her home safely. He will be making a donation.
