Talking to you lot has been the best 15 minutes of our night out!

Street Pastors are trained volunteers from many local churches who provide a visible, reassuring presence for everyone in the city centre. We usually operate in teams of three or four and are out and about, prayerfully patrolling, between 10 pm and 4 am on Friday and Saturday nights.

Derby’s Street Pastors operate as a franchise of the national Street Pastor scheme that is run by the Ascension Trust under the management of Derby City Mission.

Street Pastors have been operating in Derby since February 2009 and nationally since 2003.  Over the years, Street Pastors have become a well-respected and appreciated part of Derby's nightlife.

In a nutshell, listening, caring and helping is what we do. Our hope is for everyone to have a safe and enjoyable night out. Sometimes things don’t always go as planned, and people may at some point find themselves in a vulnerable place or difficult situation, and we are there for them.

We may be helping someone sober up and get home safely, giving directions, reuniting people with friends, administering first aid when people are injured, and chatting with people about their lives, hopes and fears. There is often joy, sometimes tears. We can be a shoulder to cry on, a listening, non-judgemental ear providing reassurance and encouragement.

Every night is different, sometimes challenging but always rewarding. We consider it a privilege to be present, carrying God’s presence and contributing to the well-being of our city and its people.

I was ready to go home at about 12am and three of your street pastors were so kind and helpful and gave me a pair of flip flops to help my feet. I don't think they know how much their work is appreciated. You really all are angels and I hope you realise how much you help people.
