Derby City Mission every year during the winter months opens its doors to in a different church in the city of Derby every night for homeless people to have a roof over their head for the night and a warm meal. There is also a guest support service on a Wednesday morning to provide information and advice for the guests of the night shelter to get off the streets and start rebuilding their lives.
Last year during the winter months I volunteered for Derby City Mission night shelters during the winter months from December 2017 to April 2018 on a Monday night at the Cathedral in Iron Gate. This experience really opened my eyes and made me realize even more how much I wanted to help end homelessness. I worked with some of the most lovely compassionate people I have ever met who all have the same values and same mission. I met some amazing people that came through the doors of the night shelter that had some unbelievable stories to tell!
The UK is supposed to be one of the richest countries in the world how has the problem of homelessness got so bad in near enough every city in the UK?
Homelessness could happen to anyone. One day you could have everything, a nice house, nice car, a good job and the next it could be all gone. If this happened to you I'm sure you would want someone to reach out and help.
Please spare any amount you can. Thank You.
