Maintaining a Spirit of Community

On Friday 3rd May the baton of responsibility for the running of St. Peter’s lunchtime service, was passed over by Canon Revd Paul Morris and Geoff Holland, the founder of Derby City Mission, to current CEO Julio Abraham.

This day was especially poignant as, in 1989, Geoff launched open air evangelism outside St Peter’s, with the help of Youth with a Mission (YWAM), the year Derby City Mission was founded. At the turn of the Millennium, Geoff was invited to start an evangelistic service at St Peter’s Church on Friday lunchtimes which Derby City Mission now has the privilege of continuing.  Leading up to the momentous day and in preparation of the handover, Julio remarked,

This is a great opportunity to share the good news of our Lord Jesus Christ in the heart of the city to those most in need

The purpose of this service is to preach the word, have lunch together as a community and be in fellowship together.  The service is open to everyone… retirees, visitors, the homeless and marginalised, everyone is welcome.  The Derby City Mission team are looking forward to developing the service over the coming months to ensure that this best suits the needs of the community of Derby.

Our thanks go to St Peter’s for their continued partnership and to Geoff Holland and his team for their longstanding efforts to invite Jesus into the heart of our community.

St Peter’s has a warm and friendly atmosphere where the people make you feel welcome
