Homeless of Derby

There are many people in Derby that don't have anywhere to stay, nowhere that they can call home. These people are vulnerable and may have never planned to be in this position. They live a chaotic lifestyle which, in most cases, leads to damaging consequences.

Many individuals that we meet find themselves homeless due to a family breakdown, being an ex-prisoner, maybe struggling with addiction and mental health challenges. Jesus taught us to look out for those that are in need through relationship and compassion.

For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me - Matthew 25:35

We work with many partners and volunteers to meet this need in the hope that those individuals that find themselves without a home, can address the cause as well as be cared for, moving on to a secure lifestyle and becoming a contributing member of society.

What we do - Derby Nightshelter

Working with an army of volunteers, we provide safe accommodation and a substantial meal for up to 35 guests every night during the coldest months of the year (December-March).

Working in partnership with 7 churches in or near the city centre, we provide a welcoming venue, each opening their doors for one night each week.

As guests bed down for the night in new, warm sleeping bags and blankets, night staff are there to offer support and prayer throughout the night.

Before leaving at 8am the next morning, guests tuck into a healthy breakfast of cereals, toast and fresh fruit. Many are given ongoing support to address their needs.

It costs £137,000 every year to run a winter Nightshelter

£2 for a hot meal and breakfast

£25 for one person for a night, including 2 meals

£53 for a set of bedding

£80 for all the meals for a night

£853 for all the costs of one nights operation

£11,790 for a month’s overnight staff costs

Could you support this need and donate to our future Nightshelters?

Could you support as a Nightshelter Volunteer?

Anyone can make the wrong choices in life and end up on the streets, my daughter nearly did.  It is great to be able to help others. Jean, Nightshelter volunteer for 4 years
