Currently Recruiting for Street Pastors

We are currently recruiting for new Street Pastors.  If you would like to find out more about what is involved in being a Street Pastor, please come along to one of our information evenings where you can meet some of the team who will share about their experiences on the streets. It’s a good opportunity to ask any questions and learn about the application procedure and training programme.

  • Wednesday 27th February @ 7-30pm at St John’s Church, Devonshire Dr, Mickleover, DE3 9HD or
  • Thursday 28th February @7-30pm at Reach Derby, Riverside Centre, Pride Park, DE24 8HY

The application deadline is Sunday 24th March and training will start on Friday 26th April.  We recommend that all potential recruits join one of our teams as an observer to get a live experience of a shift.  If you would like to book an observer shift, please contact Shirley Wormsley on [email protected].

Application Criteria

To become a Street Pastor you must be able to satisfy the following criteria that are set in conjunction with the Ascension Trust.

  • I am a Christian and have been attending a local church regularly for at least 12 months
  • My church leader endorses my application
  • I am over 18 years old at time of application
  • I will commit to attend all training sessions
  • I consent to undergo a DBS check
  • I commit to a minimum of 12 shifts a year

Application Process

Recruitment starts during January each year.  ‘Information Evenings' take place during February for you to hear more about Street Pastors.  During this period we suggest that you arrange to go out with a team on an 'Observer Shift' prior to submitting your application. Interviews usually take place in March for successful applicants.

Upon recruitment you will be required to attend a series of comprehensive training sessions to help prepare you for your new role.  Training usually takes place on Friday evenings and all day Saturdays over 3 to 4 weekends.  Modules include:

  • Knowing Your Community
  • First Aid
  • Drugs & Alcohol
  • Roles & Responsibilities
  • Gospel & Street Pastors
  • Safeguarding / Mental Health / Listening Skills
  • Homelessness / Police / CCTV

Final Step

Once you have completed training, you will be licenced by the Ascension Trust to be a Street Pastor and on completion, you will be required to undertake two supervised shifts prior to being commissioned as a Street Pastor at Derby City Mission's Annual Celebration in September.
