Safe Space is a service providing entrenched rough sleepers with a ‘safe space’ to get help and support in the day and to be temporarily accommodated overnight. DCM is working in partnership with the Police and Crime Commissioner’s Office (OPPC), Public Health England, Derby Homes and East Midlands Ambulance Service to deliver this project.

  • Reception area, staff office and interview room
  • Kitchenette and refreshment area
  • Rest and recovery area
  • New enclosed entrance and disabled ramp
  • Entry control and security system

Cost

The overall building cost for converting this area for Safe Space is £155,000 which is being funded by:

  • £55,000 - Ministry of Housing, Local Government & Communities, via Derby Homes
  • £15,000 - Public Health England, via Derby City Council
  • £22,500 - Office of Derbyshire Police & Crime Commissioner
  • £62,500 - Derby City Mission, via our "Build a Hub" donations

Equipping Safe Space

As well as the building work we also need to equip the Safe Space with new equipment and furniture as this service will be an expansion from what we currently provide from Charnwood St.  If you would like to help in this please see our "Shopping List" page and pledge the funds for the specific items of equipment that we need to facilitate the various operations in the Hub.

The following series of photographs provide a diary of the development from having and "open space" to delivering a "Safe Space"
